Who is getting scalp micropigmentation done?

Traction Alopecia is a form of hair loss which is caused by a constant pulling (“traction”) of the hair, due to certain hairstyles such as tight ponytails, buns, dreadlocks and braids. The risk of traction alopecia is further increased if certain hairstyles are combined with chemicals, such as chemical relaxers. Accessories such as hair clips and tight head scarves have also been associated with traction alopecia as has excessively long hair which can weigh the hair down, pulling on the hair follicles.

Traction alopecia is different to the condition where people have the desire to actively pull their own hair (Trichotillomania). Traction alopecia can improve if it has only been present for a few weeks or months and when the tension applied to the hair is eased. However, if the pulling of the hair is long-term, it can lead to permanent hair loss due to the damage caused to the hair follicles.

At Velvet Pigmentation Clinics in Shoreditch London / Brighton we use scalp micropigmentation to help disguise areas of traction alopecia for a fuller-looking head of hair. We also offer mesotherapy / micro-needling for helping the follicles to produce stronger hair, in some cases this can restore the thinned area to its former condition.

What is scalp micropigmentation?

Scalp micropigmentation (SMP) is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure which simulates the appearance of hair, to give the impression of a shaved head or to create the illusion of a fuller head of hair by densifying certain areas of the scalp.

During the procedure, our qualified and experienced technicians will deposit natural pigments in to the epidermal layer of the scalp, using sterile precision needles with incredibly fine points. We can customise your shade to best match your skin tone and natural hair colour.

TESTIMONIAL (Question – do you have a photo of the client?) After living with traction alopecia for years, and being disappointed with the expensive ointments that did not work, I starting looking for an alternative.

I was tired of hiding the embarrassing bald patches on my scalp with scarves, so when I came across micropigmentation, I decided to look for a respected specialist.

This is when I heard about Eve at Velvet Scalp Micropigmentation. She came highly recommended, and when I looked at her website, I was impressed by the fact that she offered a personal and expert service. In addition, when I saw the impressive work that she had done with her previous clients, I knew she would be the right person for me. I wanted to receive my treatment from a woman because I needed that sensitivity and understanding, and Eve did not disappoint.

She gave me a free consultation, and after examining my scalp, explained exactly what I could expect to see after the treatment was completed. She was very honest as she was keen to manage my expectations. That impressed me. She was also able to tell me immediately how long the treatment would last and how much it would cost.

The results of the treatment were outstanding, and there were no hidden costs. I now look as if I have intentionally shaved my hair and those bald patches have gone. This has made me feel so happy and confident. I no longer have to cover my head with scarves. I can simply go back to the days when there was no alopecia and I did not feel self-conscious.

My other half is extremely impressed and says that it has made all the difference to my appearance.

Thank you, Eve. You really have saved me. I no longer feel depressed about my appearance but confident and carefree.

To anyone who is considering who to use for this treatment, you must choose Eve at Velvet Scalp Micropigmentation.

FAQ’s How many sessions of scalp micropigmentation will I need?

Depending on your individual requirements, we will usually split the treatment into three sessions, with a duration of around 2 to 4 hours each time.

Does scalp micropigmentation hurt?

At Velvet, we aim to make the treatment as painless as possible. Your therapist will work to delivery tiny superficial penetration wounds which will scab and heal almost immediately. If you are particularly sensitive, taking some paracetamol around 45 minutes before your treatment can help to ease any discomfort.

When will I see the results?

Once the scabs have healed after a few days, following your treatment, you will be able to see the full results. The areas that have been treated will look fuller and thicker and a flattering hairline can be created, giving the impression of a healthier head of hair.

How long do the results from scalp micropigmentation last?

Scalp micropigmentation is designed to last several years depending on lifestyle factors such as sun exposure.
